August/September Newsletter Information
My newsletter will feature some definitions a parent or high school coach should know in preparation of assisting his/her student-athlete while being recruited.
The NCAA eligibility center -(www.ncaastudent.org). If registered with the NCAA eligibility center, a prospective recruit can check their NCAA eligibility status to insure that their transcripts and test scores were received. In order to be recruited by a Division I or II college, a prospective must be registered with the Eligibility Center (formerly called the Clearing House).
Contact – any time a college coach has face to face contact with a student-athlete OR his/her parents OFF the college campus AND says more than hello.
Evaluation – an evaluation is an activity by a coach to evaluate your academic or athletic ability. This would include visiting your high school or watching you practice or compete anywhere.
Official Visits – any visit to a college campus by an athlete or athlete’s parents paid for by the college. The college may pay the following:
- Athlete’s transportation to/from the college
- Room and meals (3 per day) for the athlete and his/her parents while they are visiting the college
- Reasonable entertainment expenses, including 3 complimentary admissions to a home athletic competition
A prospective recruit can make only one official visit per institution with a limit of five total.
